Be Like the Bird

Instrumentation/Voicing:
5-pt canon (SA or SATB)

A graceful meditation, this five-part canon can be performed many ways, but is also effective sung in unison or 2-pt with flute obbligato. Written for a girls' school in the mountains of rural West Virginia, the text reads: "Be like the bird that, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her and sings, knowing she hath wings."
