Agnus Dei

Instrumentation/Voicing:
TBB div. choir & baritone solo, a cappella

This setting of "Agnus Dei" for men's voices is an excerpt from Jocelyn Hagen's larger work ASHES OF ROSES, a requiem for choir and orchestra. The melody is chant-like, and requires a lot of sustain in the lower men's voices. The baritone solo, sung over the Latin in English, sets this piece apart from other settings and provides a deeper connection for the audience and singers to the texts. The solo text is taken from I Corinthians: you may recognize it from the Brahms requiem.

Baritone solo:
Behold, I tell you a mystery:
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed –
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed.

~ I Corinthians 15: 51-52

Translation:

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
