On My Dreams

SATB div. choir, piano, optional trap set

"On My Dreams" was commissioned by my hometown high school choir, under the direction of my high school choir conductor, for their annual POPS concert. To fit into that concert, I wanted to ensure that the melody was easily singable and was infused with elements of pop music. The challenging and rhythmic piano part provides a groove underneath that is heightened by the addition of a trap set. High school choirs really enjoy singing this piece, and the text is especially appropriate for the end of the school year.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light;
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
